A Course In Miracles - The Gift Of Healing

Here is a true statement of the healing of your mind, a statement that expresses your power of decision, your one remaining power as a captive of the world you see, and your determination not to hold on to any of your ideas about the world: “I loose the world from all I thought it was.” This is lesson 132 in the Workbook of A Course In Miracles.

As long as you try to heal the body, you still must hold ideas about the world, just as it is with all your attempts to fix anything here. It cannot be fixed, neither your body, nor any aspect of the world. That is because sickness is not something that comes to you without your bidding. There are no factors outside of your mind that cause your body to change and hurt and decay. And any remedy you employ in an attempt to prove otherwise, trying to get rid of what threatens you must fail, simply because you treat only the effects of what you refuse to look at. Cause and effect cannot be separate, nor can they be confused. Yet that is exactly what the error is that this world represents.

Jesus talks in the early chapters of A Course In Miracles about the attempt on your part to usurp the Kingdom of God, to be father instead of son to him. Therefore you lose sight of what you are because this is a denial of your Source. You let the effect be the cause and then experience a world where you are victim and slave to external factors and motivators, confirming to you what you have done to yourself, and you have a whole world of dangers and all sorts of things attacking your health in your body identity. All because you have denied your identity.

Can you honestly say that there can be a solution to this, that you can fix this chaos of attack and defense and suffering? What do you do, except shifting from symptom to symptom, from one delusion of problem solving to another? In that sense, any remedy you employ only confirms to your notion of the problem you see, asserts the insane image of yourself as a body getting sick and old and dying in the end.

Your only hope consists in questioning the source of this nightmare of self-identity. What is the source of it? What is your source? In admitting you do not know who you are you are freed to be uncertain and not defend yourself against what you see as threat. In accepting “outside" help, help from outside of space time, you are healed, because in that the fundamental error gets corrected. Everything you think you see reflects an idea, and it is your idea. So in changing your mind, you change the cause. Since it does not make sense and can only be futile to try to change effects, you will have to look at the cause. Cause and effect are not separate. The effect is the direct result of cause and determined in the cause.

So what is healing? All healing is of the mind, since all sickness is of the mind and only of the mind. In letting go of your thoughts and changing the source of what you think, you are healed.

“What keeps the world in chains but your beliefs? And what can save the world except your Self? Belief is powerful indeed. The thoughts you hold are mighty, and illusions are as strong in their effects as is the truth. A madman thinks the world he sees is real, and does not doubt it. Nor can he be swayed by questioning his thoughts' effects. It is but when their source is raised to question that the hope of freedom comes to him at last.

Yet is salvation easily achieved, for anyone is free to change his mind, and all his thoughts change with it. Now the source of thought has shifted, for to change your mind means you have changed the source of all ideas you think or ever thought or yet will think. You free the past from what you thought before. You free the future from all ancient thoughts of seeking what you do not want to find. …

The world is nothing in itself. Your mind must give it meaning. And what you behold upon it are your wishes, acted out so you can look on them and think them real. Perhaps you think you did not make the world, but came unwillingly to what was made already, hardly waiting for your thoughts to give it meaning. Yet in truth you found exactly what you looked for when you came.

There is no world apart from what you wish, and herein lies your ultimate release. Change but your mind on what you want to see, and all the world must change accordingly. Ideas leave not their source. … There is no world! This is the central thought the course attempts to teach. Not everyone is ready to accept it, and each one must go as far as he can let himself be led along the road to truth. He will return and go still farther, or perhaps step back a while and then return again.

But healing is the gift of those who are prepared to learn there is no world, and can accept the lesson now. Their readiness will bring the lesson to them in some form which they can understand and recognize. Some see it suddenly on point of death, and rise to teach it. Others find it in experience that is not of this world, which shows them that the world does not exist because what they behold must be the truth, and yet it clearly contradicts the world.

And some will find it in this course, and in the exercises that we do today. Today's idea is true because the world does not exist. And if it is indeed your own imagining, then you can loose it from all things you ever thought it was by merely changing all the thoughts that gave it these appearances. The sick are healed as you let go all thoughts of sickness, and the dead arise when you let thoughts of life replace all thoughts you ever held of death…”
(A Course In Miracles, Lesson 132)

This is the gift of healing. You are the Course In Miracles. You are the physician yourself. You are the miracle. You are God’s Son, complete and healed and whole. There is no healing without you being healed in the remembrance of Who you are.

Why Wait For Heaven?

Enlightenment is the title of this picture by photographer Manuel Libres Librodo Jr.
who has a large gallery of excellent pictures.

Thank God for A Course In Miracles. It tells me time has been saved for you and me. It does not ask for difficult and sacrificial excercises of repentence or meditation, it asks only for acceptance of very simple facts, because there is no sin. There is only you and your mind being corrected in a holy instant of forgiveness and healing where you see your brother is yourself.

At no single instant does the body exist at all. It is always remembered or anticipated, but never experienced just now. Only its past and future make it seem real. Time controls it entirely, for sin is never wholly in the present. In any single instant the attraction of guilt would be experienced as pain and nothing else, and would be avoided. It has no attraction now. Its whole attraction is imaginary, and therefore must be thought of in the past or in the future.

It is impossible to accept the holy instant without reservation unless, just for an instant, you are willing to see no past or future. You cannot prepare for it without placing it in the future. Release is given you the instant you desire it. Many have spent a lifetime in preparation, and have indeed achieved their instants of success. This course does not attempt to teach more than they learned in time, but it does aim at saving time. You may be attempting to follow a very long road to the goal you have accepted. It is extremely difficult to reach Atonement by fighting against sin. Enormous effort is expended in the attempt to make holy what is hated and despised. Nor is a lifetime of contemplation and long periods of meditation aimed at detachment from the body necessary. All such attempts will ultimately succeed because of their purpose. Yet the means are tedious and very time consuming, for all of them look to the future for release from a state of present unworthiness and inadequacy.

Your way will be different, not in purpose but in means. A holy relationship is a means of saving time. One instant spent together with your brother restores the universe to both of you. You are prepared. Now you need but to remember you need do nothing. It would be far more profitable now merely to concentrate on this than to consider what you should do. When peace comes at last to those who wrestle with temptation and fight against the giving in to sin; when the light comes at last into the mind given to contemplation; or when the goal is finally achieved by anyone, it always comes with just one happy realization; 'I need do nothing.'

Here is the ultimate release which everyone will one day find in his own way, at his own time. You do not need this time. Time has been saved for you because you and your brother are together. This is the special means this course is using to save you time. You are not making use of the course if you insist on using means which have served others well, neglecting what was made for you. Save time for me by only this one preparation, and practice doing nothing else. 'I need do nothing' is a statement of allegiance, a truly undivided loyalty. Believe it for just one instant, and you will accomplish more than is given to a century of contemplation, or of struggle against temptation."
(A Course In Miracles, Chapter 18, VII. I Need Do Nothing)

Why wait for Heaven?

"Enlightenment is but a recognition, not a change at all. Light is not of the world, yet you who bear the light in you are alien here as well. The light came with you from your native home, and stayed with you because it is your own. It is the only thing you bring with you from Him Who is your Source. It shines in you because it lights your home, and leads you back to where it came from and you are at home.

This light can not be lost. Why wait to find it in the future, or believe it has been lost already, or was never there? It can so easily be looked upon that arguments which prove it is not there become ridiculous. Who can deny the presence of what he beholds in him? It is not difficult to look with in, for there all vision starts. There is no sight, be it of dreams or from a truer Source, that is not but the shadow of the seen trough inward vision. There perception starts, and there it ends. It has no source but this."

Forgiveness Is For Myself

Without forgiveness I am lost and left to my insane and meaningless thoughts, to my conceptual mind, plotting revenge, punishment and, in the end, death for myself and everyone around me. How great it is when someone in your dream, in a moment of darkness, tells you with certainty, "hey, that what you are doing in your mind is not what you want. I know that, and I know you know that. Say to me, 'I don't want this anymore... Whatever it maybe, I want to be free of it... I am willing to let it go... I want heaven instead of hell.' Yes." Your brother takes you by the hand, you know that he is right, and you accept despite your resistence. You say it, and you begin to smile again. You found yourself again, in your real purpose and communication. "Oh, yes, I want to be happy." I forgot.

Often it is something very little that upsets you and robs you your peace of mind. The longer you let it go on, the longer you deprive yourself of joy and happiness.

I found myself in this situation feeling being attacked and challenged to change. I defended myself against it, and lost it. One thing seems to be difficult for me: My girlfriend trying to change me. And boy, how often am I doing that! And it is all me doing it. I am doing it to myself. I yelled back, "Why are you accusing me? What is your point?" I stopped, maybe waiting for an answer, checking what would happen, but nothing. No reaction. It silenced me, and I could not express anything further. I fellt cut off. It took a while till I realized and admited to myself how pissed I was. I was asking for help, of course, but the mind is slippery, I went back over and over again to justify myself in my upset, trying to solve it on my own terms, which mostly would mean to break up. I needed a miracle.

Grievances hide the light in me, hide the light from me that lets me give myself to others. It takes balls to stand in it and not shut down, not withdraw into your own little fantasy, but stay open and reach out to the other to let it be resolved by not excluding the other. It takes trust in the other and courage. Yet with willingness and trust, anything can and does change in an instant.

Jesus did not allow himself to hold grievances against his attackers. He knew that his salvation and mission depended on everyone else being not excluded from what He was seeking to accomplish. "God forgive them, for they do not know what it is they do." This does not even distinguish between the kind of offense. It simply asks for forgiveness.

When I change my mind, all I then can say is, I still love you. And how often do I have to change my mind? As long as I remember the offense, for I want to be completely free. Forgiveness is for myself. It is the only way to get rid of my grievances.

"Forgiveness is this world's equivalent of Heaven's justice. It translates the world of sin into a simple world, where justice can be reflected from beyond the gate behind which total lack of limits lies. Nothing in boundless love could need forgiveness. And what is charity within the world gives way to simple justice past the gate that opens into Heaven. No one forgives unless he has believed in sin, and still believes that he has much to be forgiven. Forgiveness thus becomes the means by which he learns he has done nothing to forgive. Forgiveness always rests upon the one who offers it, until he sees himself as needing it no more. And thus is he returned to his real function of creating, which his forgiveness offers him again.

Forgiveness turns the world of sin into a world of glory, wonderful to see. Each flower shines in light, and every bird sings of the joy of Heaven. There is no sadness and there is no parting here, for everything is totally forgiven. And what has been forgiven must join, for nothing stands between to keep them separate and apart. The sinless must perceive that they are one, for nothing stands between to push the other off. And in the space that sin left vacant do they join as one, in gladness recognizing what is part of them has not been kept apart and separate."
(A Course In Miracles, Chapter 26, Where Sin Has Left)

"I am mistaken when I think I can be hurt in
any way. I am God's Son, whose Self rests
safely in the Mind of God.

I will forgive all things today, that I may
learn how to accept the truth in me, and come to
recognize my sinlessness."
(Lesson 119 from A Course In Miracles)

Forgiveness truly is the key to happiness. It's a miracle. Thank you.
